Measure and Count
Measuring your energy / fuel consumption and counting it in CO2 equivalent is relatively straight forward - but what else do you measure and count? |
|
Assess and Set Targets
Once measured you can assess where and how you use fuel. How do you decide to set targets. Eco-velocity may help determine the overall 'carbon efficiency' in your organisation. |
|
Achieve Reductions
You want to reduce CO2 emissions - but how are you going to do it? Special techniques, eliminate unnecessary use, control power or use alternative energy. |
Where to draw the line
What do you include. e.g should carbon in food be that involved in getting food to the shelf, or should it include how it is cooked and disposed of? example |

|
Sequestration and Offsetting
Are these the ways to deal with XS CO2? Where should we sequestrate carbon? Offset is dealing in futures by investing in long term projects - whilst maintaining current emmission levels. Check out the debate in the toolkit |
Indirect/Direct impacts
While you breathe out carbon dioxide - those are direct emissions. You also consume electricity that emits carbon dioxide at the power station - indirect emissions. |
|
Only emissions?
Is it just about carbon dioxide emissions, or should a more 'ecological' footprint be used that takes into account the carbon consumed too and translates that into land space needed to produce fuel. |
|
Double counting.
Is a lorry load of biscuits counted in transport or food production? Is your journey to work part of your own or your organisation's footprint?
