Person in UK emits (average each year):

Directly: 0.5 tonne of CO2

We inhale about 550ml of air, of which 115ml is oxygen, when at rest. When we exhale, about a quarter of the oxygen becomes carbon dioxide; ie about 27ml of greenhouse gas. As CO2 weighs 2g/litre, the average resting human produces 170,000 litres, or 340kg carbon dioxide per year. This is increased to 500kg (= 0.5 tonne) with a moderate level of activity. So, 60 million British people produce about 30 million tonnes of carbon dioxide in a year.
British industry - excluding electricity generation, produced 99 million tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2005.
