Reduce emissions - indirect

Scope 2 Reduce Electricity Use

Many organisations will already have made the easier energy saving measures

Task 2: Check the following energy efficiency measures
Walk around your organisation and make notes of any unattended room or area where machinery, lighting, computers or other electrical appliances are switched on. Write a short report outlining your findings and allocate possible solutions such as timers, temperature guages, automatic shut down or 'sleep' functions. Check out
Sust-It :

Task 3: For those areas with the highest electricity use check the following
Maintenance Records bad wiring image Equipment that is not regularly maintained may not operate at maximum efficiency.
Energy Efficiency Ratings image meter Manufacturers details will include the energy efficiency rating of the equipment you use. Where feasible monitot energy consumption to verify your equipment is operating efficiently.
Purchasing Policies hand image Examine purchasing policies for new goods and equipment. There ought to be a cost / benefit clause outlining energy ratings for new acquisitions

Task 4: Contact your electricity supply.
Get a Green Electricity quote, check costs and benefits.
Make recommendations on source of supply.

Scope 3 Reduce Other Indirect Emissions

You have set operational boundaries where you consider your organisations obligations and influence ends. You have measured and counted those indirect emissions associated with your organisation's carbon footprint.
Task 5: Examine those indirect activites you included

  • Decide where are you most likely to influence behaviour and change culture
  • Identify from your counting and assessments those indirect emissions which are the highest in green house gases.
  • Draw up a list of key people you need to talk to, up and down stream within your operational boundary.
  • Explain your organisations targets.
  • Negotiate ways of achieving targets.
